Amplifying voices of
Ecofeminism with dynamic layouts in magazine printing
The Ecofeminism magazine is a fine art showcase of indigenous woman creatives who bring awareness to the struggles of femininity alongside climate change. As someone who is inspired by women like Rebecca Lee Kunz, Natani Notah, and Lynne Allen, I strongly felt the need for voice amplification from women in the environmental realm. The magazine is an example of how printed media can serve as a physical framework for enhancing meaning and comprehension.
Inspiration
After choosing three indigenous women to highlight in the magazine, images from their portfolios were reviewed and cataloged. Pieces concerning climate change, feminism, and the indigenous experience were chosen. Extensive research and analysis of the works then gave birth to the written text within the magazine.

Development
Pieces from the three artists helped to inform layout direction. Relevance to the artist's personal story and mode of expression became an indicator for image sizing in the spreads. The largest images tested the limits of an entire spread and became section introductions. Additionally, smaller motifs were extracted to play alongside or in the text for a feeling of interconnection.

Application
Accessory items respect and honor the artists exhibited in the issue. Expanding the narrative into physical products provides readers with a constant reminder of their journey in Ecofeminism. Takeaways become conversation starters and continue to fuel the fire of inspiration ignited by the magazine.
