Developing a Typography-Based Poster to Announce AIGA Winner Elaine Lustig Cohen's Lecture at SCAD
This prompt for this project asked for the creation of a poster to announce a new AIGA award winner lecture series coming to SCAD. Additionally, the speaker of the lecture would be given a small gift of gratitude from SCAD designed to match.
Initial Plan
In the brainstorming period, I understood that I needed to remake the Lustig font on Adobe Illustrator. I sketched out different compositions where the typography and imagery can work hand in hand. After looking at some inspiration from Elaine Lustig Cohen's works, I was able to inform a strong foundation for the assignment.

Designing
Once I had recreated the typeface, I started playing around with photos of Elaine Lustig Cohen, while mixing in the letters I needed for the lecture series title. I decided to enlarge my chosen image of her to center it on her face. To push it more in the background, I changed the image to grayscale and added texture. Ultimately, I wanted to convey the strife she experienced as a woman graphic designer during her time period through the photograph's interaction with the typeface letters.
Execution
The final mock-ups exhibit how the deliverables would function in the real world. The poster would be displayed in the halls of SCAD, announcing and drawing attention to the lecture series. The gift box encasing the patterned socks would be given to Elaine Lustig Cohen as a thank you for speaking at SCAD.
